Chappelle opened his monologue on Saturday addressing several controversial topics, including diving right in to Kanye West's downfall and the subject of antisemitism.

The star kicked off the sketch comedy show with a disclaimer, stating, "'I denounce antisemitism in all its forms. And I stand with my friends in the Jewish community.'"

"And that, Kanye, is how you buy yourself some time," he added.

He went on to joke about the backlash Ye has faced for his antisemitic statements, and described it as "not a crazy thing to think – but it's a crazy thing to say out loud in a climate like this."

"It shouldn’t be this scary to talk about anything, it makes my job incredibly difficult," he said.

"I hope they don’t take anything away from me. Whoever they are," referencing West being dropped by multiple sponsors and from business dealings.

The comedian went on to lightly criticize former president Donald Trump, who he called "an honest liar," and Georgia Senate hopeful Herschel Walker, who he referred to as "observably stupid."

Dave Chappelle hosts Saturday Night Live and the critics are still out

Reactions to Chappelle's appearance have been mixed, with some critics arguing he may have gone too far. One Daily Beast article claimed the comedian used his monologue to "echo" West's antisemitism.

Saturday marked Chappelle's third time hosting SNL, but the first since he received backlash for controversial comments regarding the trans community in his 2021 Netflix special The Closer.

Earlier this week, reports claimed members of the SNL writing staff were boycotting working on the episode in support of the LGBTQ+ community, but others followed up saying Chappelle's reps denied the rumors.

Rapper Ice T, who made an appearance in a House of the Dragon skit on Saturday, shared on Twitter that "somebody said they're gonna CANCEL me after doing SNL with Dave Chappelle ... LOL! These MFs have been trying to Cancel me for over 30 yrs!"

Chappelle will be followed by Keke Palmer, who will take over the duty of host on the next episode of Saturday Night Live, scheduled for December 3.
