The show must go on! On Saturday night, the rapper made his debut appearance as the musical guest on SNL.

Lil Nas X (22) added to his controversial and devilish image as he performed his new hit song Montero (Call Me By Your Name) surrounded by male dancers in leather-clad outfits who simulated sex moves and licked him while he sang.

As he began grinding on a pole and danced with his legs spread, his worst nightmare happened - the crotch of his pants burst open!

The Grammy Award winner reacted immediately – grabbing his crotch with one hand and, after an embarrassed smile, continued performing the rest of the song with his hand covering his private parts.

"My pants really ripped on live television last night," the star said in a TikTok video on Sunday.

The video quickly made the rounds on the internet, with fans laughing along with the artist at his epic fail.

Lil Nas X is thankful for the mishap, calling it his "favorite night" of his career

On Twitter, the singer later joked that he often pulls stunts on purpose, "but ripping my pants live on television is not one of them."

On Sunday, the rapper thanked the SNL team in a tweet for what he called "the favorite night of my career."

He also said the journey to perform was a feat in and of itself. After rehearsing for two weeks, one of his dancers tested positive for Covid-19, so all of his dancers then had to be replaced with only 24 hours notice to learn the routine.

"Everything happens for a reason tho lol," he said.

Headline-grabbing wardrobe malfunctions during live performances have created some of the most memorable moments in television. The 2004 Super Bowl halftime appearance of Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake is perhaps the most infamous, and went down in history as Nipplegate.
