Olivia Rodrigo almost cut fan-favorite GUTS song because it was "awful"

The 20-year-old released GUTS on September 8 to fan and critic acclaim, but as it turns out, she wasn't always the biggest fan of it herself.

On Monday, Olivia's friend and fellow singer, Tate McRae, told Capital FM that she was convinced that pretty isn't pretty wasn't good enough for the record.

"I think it's such a beautiful song and I was so shocked that she wasn't going to release it," Tate said.

The Greedy songstress also shared that she and Olivia often exchange song ideas, further revealing that the Disney+ star was always hard on herself during the process.

"Olivia would play me these songs and be like, 'God, I hate it, like, it's so awful,' and I'd be like, 'Girl, what are you talking about? This is amazing.'"

"It's such an interesting thing because when songs are still in process, the amount of doubt of, like, 'Is this an awful song or is this a great song?' Because you're so biased," she added.

Olivia hasn't exactly been shy about second-guessing her hit songs, even famously singing, "I hate every song I write," in SOUR's opening track, brutal, and pretty isn't pretty is not the only GUTS track she's admitted her insecurity over.

Another surprising near-cut from GUTS was get him back!, which later went on to become the album's third single.

"A few days before we turned in the album, I was like 'I hate this song, take it off,' and now it's one of my favorites," Olivia admitted in a fan Q&A last month.

As for the songs she is a fan of, Olivia recently named american b***h, logical, and love is embarrassing as her top three at the moment.
