New York, New York - Meghan Markle's upcoming children's book about the relationships between fathers and sons was inspired by her own growing family.

The Bench is a story of the close bond between father and son - seen through the eyes of a mother, publisher Penguin Random House announced in New York on Tuesday.

Meghan (39) was inspired to write the story by her husband, Prince Harry (36) and son Archie, who turns two on Thursday. The story is a reminder of the many ways love can take shape and express itself in a modern family. Meghan will also voice an audiobook, according to the publisher.

"The Bench started as a poem I wrote for my husband on Father’s Day, the month after Archie was born," says Meghan.

Of the work of award-winning illustrator Christian Robinson, she said: "Christian layered in beautiful and ethereal watercolor illustrations that capture the warmth, joy, and comfort of the relationship between fathers and sons from all walks of life; this representation was particularly important to me, and Christian and I worked closely to depict this special bond through an inclusive lens."

The Duchess added, "My hope is that The Bench resonates with every family, no matter the makeup, as much as it does with mine."

The book is set for release on June 8.

Meghan and Harry officially gave up their royal duties just over a year ago and have since been living in California with Archie. They are expecting their second child, a daughter, this summer.

The couple is busy with many causes such as vaccine distribution, mental health awareness, work with disabled veterans, and have recently signed deals with Netflix and Spotify.
