Graham Platner rails against Trump's war in Iran, gets in nasty feud with Ted Cruz
Augusta, Maine - Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner railed against President Donald Trump's war in Iran and got into a nasty altercation with MAGA Senator Ted Cruz over social media.
"They are willing to sacrifice the lives of young American men and women and the lives of Iranian civilians simply to protect their political interests," Platner declared on X after giving a speech condemning Trump's attacks on Iran.
"I cannot think of a more unpatriotic act, or a more un-American act, than to send our sons and daughters off to die, to kill, and to bring immense violence to innocent civilians abroad simply because you're afraid you might lose the midterms," he continued.
"It is the American people who are asked to make the sacrifice. It is American families who have to bury their dead sons and daughters."
Platner is running to become a Democratic candidate for the Senate in Maine during the 2026 midterms and currently holds a sizable polling lead over both his Democratic challenger Janet Mills and incumbent GOP Senator Susan Collins.
His comments came after Trump launched an all-out assault on Iran over the weekend, killing Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and launching a bombing campaign with Israel's help. The assault has triggered a broader conflict in the Middle East.
"I can assure you your prayers didn't save my friends from dying in the last war you supported," Platner wrote in a post directed at Collins, who had offered her prayers to US service members serving in the Middle East.
