Donald and Melania Trump greeted with boos and cheers at Kennedy Center event

Washington DC - President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump recently attended an event at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, where their presence was met with a very mixed reaction.

On Tuesday night, the couple attended the premiere of the musical Chicago, but videos shared around social media of their arrival suggest that the crowd was split between MAGA fans and anti-Trumpers.

Reagan Reese of the Daily Caller shared a clip in an X post, writing that the Trumps' entrance garnered "loud cheers," further noting that there were "some boos, but the crowd drowned them out with more cheers."

In another video shared by a CBS News reporter from a different angle, the boos are even more audible, and only those surrounding Trump are seen clapping for him.

The White House also shared a clip from an angle similar to Reese's, but critics have accused them of editing it to make the boos appear much quieter.

Trump's takeover of the Kennedy Center

The event comes after Trump took over the center last February, fired its board, handpicked their replacements, and made himself chair – all because he believed it had become too "woke" under previous leadership.

He then trolled his critics by renaming it the "Trump-Kennedy Center" – a move that angered numerous members of the Kennedy family. The new board later green-lit the change, despite the move requiring Congressional approval.

The Kennedy Center will soon close down for two years as Trump has vowed to spend "around $200 million" to renovate the "delapidated" building.
