NFL: Titans easily top the Rams for their fifth win in a row

Inglewood, California - The Tennessee Titans took care of business out west, beating the Los Angeles Rams in a Sunday night matchup.

The Titans rolled over the Rams 28-16 for their fifth-straight win this season, also snapping LA’s four-game winning streak.

While the offense put up most of the points for Tennessee, defense was the name of the game in this one.

Their unit banded together to hold the Rams, who average 29 points per game, to a mere 16 on Sunday night – three field goals and a touchdown that was only scored with seconds remaining in regulation.

On the other hand, LA’s defense was non-existent in the first half as the Titans broke out for 21 points in the second quarter alone.

An offensive rush like that brought down the Rams early, putting them in a hole that they were never really going to climb out of.

Sometimes, a defensive unit deserves some credit for a big win, this one led by defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons (24).

Through the night, his pressure on Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford helped the Titans control the game’s momentum.

He was able to easily get past LA’s offensive line, forcing Stafford into two costly interceptions that helped keep the Rams off the scoreboard.

Simmons finished the night with six tackles, three sacks, and four hits on the quarterback.

The Titans have a comfortable lead in the AFC South as the only team in the division with a winning regular-season record so far.

At 7-2, they’ve quietly made their way to the top spot in the standings and they don't even have to win all their remaining eight games to guarantee home-field advantage come playoff time.

Next Sunday, the Titans (7-2) head back home to take on the Saints (5-3) while the Rams (7-2) visit the 49ers (3-5) on Monday night.
