MLB: Cleveland gets crushed on their own field in a wild blowout against the Athletics

Cleveland, Ohio - The Cleveland Indians didn't stand a chance in their game against the Oakland A’s, who finished with a score straight out of football.

To say that the Athletics got the better of the Indians would be an understatement almost as big as the 17-0 score by which they won the last of their three-game series on Thursday.

The absolute rout capped off a clean sweep for Oakland and extended their current winning streak to seven games. This win was also the highest-scoring win the A’s have had so far this season, eclipsing the 13-run outing they had against the Rangers back in June.

Mitch Moreland (35) went 2-for-5 with both of his hits being homers, while Matt Canha and Starling Marte each had three RBIs in the win. Third baseman Matt Chapman added to the mix by drawing five walks, the most for an Athletic since Mark McGwire walked the same amount back in 1997. Chapman did end up scoring three times off of those free bases, though.

Chris Bassitt got the win on the mound for his AL-leading 12th win. "Everyone put on a show," he said post-game. "Our hitters were pretty ridiculous today.” The Indians got all three of their total hits in the box score off of Bassitt, but nothing else to show for it.

Cleveland actually hit more than just the baseball in this game, as two of their pitchers combined to hit three Oakland batters. Altogether, the Indians used five guys on the mound in an effort to stop Oakland’s onslaught.

On Friday night, the Athletics head down to Texas to take on the Rangers, while the Indians hope to regroup on the road against the Tigers in Detroit.
