The Mets beat the Yankees 10-3 in the first of a three-game set, which now makes it an unlucky seven defeats in a row for the Bronx Bombers.

Just three weeks ago, the Yankees were enjoying an impressive 13-game winning streak, but they're now well into a slump.

They have been battling with division rivals the Boston Red Sox for an AL Wild Card spot, but the way things are going for New York, they might find themselves on the outside looking in come October.

The Mets on the other hand took it to the Yankees with four players enjoying multi-hit games on the night, led by Javier Baez (28) who went 3-for-4 and batted in two runs.

The game was close at the start, but then the Mets turned a 2-1 deficit into a big 10-2 lead by the end of the seventh inning. It wasn't just the Mets causing damage though – third baseman Gio Urshela and shortstop Gleyber Torres both made throwing errors that turned into three runs.

As a team, the Mets racked up 11 hits, mostly off of Yankees starter Jordan Montgomery (5-6), who could only last 3.1 innings, allowing seven hits and seven runs.

Rookie Tylor Megill had a career night, striking out 10 Yankees over seven innings, both the best he’s done so far in the MLB.

Jonathan Villar, Michael Conforto, and Jeff McNeil each had two hits and scored two runs apiece in the Mets’ win.

Both teams are back at it for the second game in their weekend series on Saturday night.
