The Royals won game number two of their three-game set 8-4 after the Yankees committed a rare four errors on their way to dropping what could’ve been their second-straight win.

In their matchup on Monday night, both teams made history by being the first teams in MLB history to score runs in the seventh, eighth, ninth, and 10th innings, before NY came away with the win. Tuesday night was a different story.

Royals catcher Salvador Perez (31) was the big hitter for Kansas City as he blasted two home runs in the win. His first shot put the Royals on the board with a two-run blast in the first inning. He set a new career-high with his second of the game when he tied things up at 4-4 in the sixth.

Perez’s second homer sparked a run for the Royals, during which they put up four more runs over the next two frames to pull away for the win.

Sure, it didn’t help New York that Perez had a career day, leading the Royals to victory. But the Yankees also shot themselves in the foot with four big errors, one that allowed the Royals to score, and the rest at least moving Kansas City baserunners into scoring position.

The Yankees did have some offense to hang their hats on, from a two-run shot from Kyle Higashioka and a sixth-inning single by DJ LeMahieu that scored Jonathan Davis. For the Royals, Whit Merrifield and Michael Taylor each had two hits in the game.

Both teams will close out their series on Wednesday afternoon, back in Kansas City.
