In a lawsuit filed in Florida last Friday, plaintiffs Alan Fischer, Marie Sullivan, and Patrick Sullivan argued that they and 35 other individuals who filed written administrative claims more than six months ago deserve compensation because of the officer's use of force.

"The actions of the police caused physical and emotional injuries, including but not limited to chemical burns, concussive trauma, emotional distress, and other damages to plaintiffs, class members, and thousands of other protesters," the suit states.

The suit argues that each of the 46 rioters was "struck by weapons or exposed to chemicals" used by law enforcement and requests $18.4 million in damages.

On January 6, 2021, after Trump lost his bid for a second term to Joe Biden, thousands of his MAGA supporters stormed the Capitol with the intention of overturning the results. Many were later convicted for their participation in what was deemed by critics as an attempted insurrection.

Trump and MAGA supporters have since sought to change the narrative, insisting the rioters were actually peaceful protesters and patriots and that their prosecution was the result of a weaponized criminal justice system.
