NFL: Raiders get routed at home by the Mahomes-inspired Chiefs

Las Vegas, Nevada - The Kansas City Chiefs are back in a big way after coming into town to demolish the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday night.

The Chiefs absolutely routed the Raiders 41-14 for three straight wins, and their first winning streak of the NFL season, while Vegas has now fallen for two games in a row.

With the win, Kansas City has sole possession of first place in the AFC West.

As if things couldn’t get any worse for the Raiders lately, they clashed with a Chiefs team that’s finally looking more like the one present in the past two Super Bowls.

Kansas City’s offense was working like a well-oiled machine as they scored in seven of their ten total drives in the game.

The Chiefs defense also played well by holding the Raiders offense to 299 yards of total offense.

Vegas was simply inefficient, earning only 15 first downs to KC’s 29, which included a dismal 1-for-9 with their third-down conversions.

After Vegas scored their final touchdown early in the third quarter, the Chiefs easily rolled on with 24 unanswered points to walk away as the victors.

After their kicker took the glory for a couple of weeks, franchise quarterback Pat Mahomes (26) grabbed the spotlight in spectacular fashion with his best game of the season.

With the way things were going against the Raiders, Mahomes could’ve left the game after the third quarter and still done enough damage to beat Vegas in the end.

In fact, the number of total yards through the air he contributed was more than what the Raiders put up in total yards as a team.

Mahomes finished the night with 35-for-50 passing, 406 yards, and five touchdowns.

The big picture

The Chiefs are now number one in their division as they look to navigate the second half of the regular season.

They'll need to take things one game at a time, but if they can keep up this kind of play, there are very few teams out there who can deal with them, as this striking show of power proved.

Next Sunday, the Chiefs (6-4) head back home to host the Cowboys (7-2) while the Raiders (5-4) welcome the Bengals (5-4) into town.
