NFL: The Bengals rout the Ravens for a big divisional win on the road

Baltimore, Maryland - The Cincinnati Bengals clashed with the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, proving their matchup to be one of the biggest games in Week Seven of the 2021 NFL regular season.

The Bengals beat down the Ravens 41-17 for their second-straight win, also snapping Baltimore’s five-game winning streak in the process.

Cincinnati improved their record to 5-2 which ties Baltimore for the AFC North division lead.

Division games in the AFC North are always serious battles, but a Bengals win against the Ravens, in Baltimore no less, is a seriously big deal.

Doing it by 24 points is even bigger.

After a modest 3-0 Bengals lead in the first quarter, both teams kept things close through the second, heading into the half with Cincinnati up 13-10.

Baltimore took its first lead to start the third quarter, but the Bengals snatched the advantage right back as the Ravens never scored again.

Second-year quarterback Joe Burrow (24) was in control through much of the game for the Bengals.

He had a career day, carving up the otherwise stingy Ravens defense that prides itself every season as one of the league’s toughest units.

Much of his success on the field came thanks to his former LSU college teammate, wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase, who caught just over 200 yards worth of Burrow’s passing in the game.

Burrow finished the game completing 23 of 38 pass attempts for 416 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception.

Sunday’s win was a significant moment for the Bengals as they snapped a five-game losing streak against the Ravens.

It seems that perhaps the Steelers, the usual nemesis of the Ravens, might be taking a backseat to another team in the division, form a rivalry standpoint.

Cincinnati showed some serious grit and toughness, hanging with the Ravens and holding them at a distance that grew and grew with one score after another. It's a great sign of things to come for franchise that's often been at the bottom.

Next Sunday, the Bengals (5-2) head to New York to face the Jets (1-5) while the Ravens (5-2) host the Vikings (3-3) at home in two weeks on November 7.
