NFL: The Jets pulled off a last-second comeback over the Eagles for a rare preseason tie

East Rutherford, New Jersey - The New York Jets played host to the Philadelphia Eagles on Friday night for their final preseason game of the year, battling back and forth to a high-scoring tie.

This hard-fought matchup between both squads finished the night knotted up at 31-31, for a tie that doesn’t happen all too often in the NFL, especially not in the preseason.

Both teams sat most of their starting lineups, so the reserves had one last chance this summer to shine.

Former Super Bowl MVP Joe Flacco (36) played like an ageless wonder, completing 13 of 16 passes for 188 yards and two touchdowns as Philly’s starting quarterback.

Kenneth Gainwell ran the football for another Eagles touchdown from his five carries for 32 total yards.

Both teams traded scores back and forth in the first quarter until the Eagles pulled away in the second and third quarters. The fourth quarter had the Jets mounting a comeback fit for a game bigger than just an exhibition.

Midway through the fourth, New York got into the end zone thanks to a 21-yard pass from James Morgan to Kenny Yeboah to pull within one point. The Eagles scored a late touchdown to widen the gap, but Morgan connected again with Yeboah for a 49-yard Hail Mary pass with no time left on the clock.

Running back Josh Adams ran for the two-point conversion to knot up the score at 31-all. Morgan finished the game going 13-for-23 with 158 yards passing, two TDs, and one pick while Yeboah had four catches for 100 yards and the two fourth-quarter scores.

New NFL preseason rules for 2021 have eliminated overtime in the exhibition games since they don’t count towards any divisional or playoff standings, to begin with.

Both teams have to make all of their cutdowns for their 53-man regular-season rosters by 4:00 PM ET on Tuesday, August 31.
