Boston, Massachusetts - Northeastern University is in hot water after accidentally sending acceptance letters to thousands of applicants.

Imagine being accepted into one of the top law schools in the country... only to receive a follow-up email saying it was all one big mistake.

That very thing happened to a ton of hopeful applicants, including LaKisha Papoutsakis, a mother of four who had been rejected from the university for the past two years.

Hours after receiving the email – and having already enthusiastically shared the news with friends and family – she got another communication that dashed her dreams again.

"Due to a technical error, 205 current applicants to the School of Law received an erroneous email notifying them of their acceptance into next year’s class," the school reportedly said in a statement. "Admissions decisions will not be finalized later in the academic year."

"It was really disheartening," Papoutsakis told Boston.com. "For such an accredited, high-ranked university to have such a major glitch and take five hours to realize is ridiculous. After such a detailed acceptance, 'sorry' isn't going to cut it."

The Office of External Affairs also admitted that 3,930 applicants from the last admission cycle also received the false emails.

LaKisha Papoutsakis says she will keep striving to fulfill her dream of being a lawyer, but believes, "The university needs to make a greater effort to rectify what they did."
