Dubbed Nintendo Switch Sports, the successor to the popular Wii game will bring tennis, bowling, football, badminton, volleyball and Chambara, a kind of sword fighting, to the console on April 29.

Nintendo is also planning to add golf in the fall, the company said.

The game is played with the motion-sensitive Joy-Con controllers, which are either used with your hands or attached to your leg with a holster to transfer the player's own movements to the character.

Nintendo Switch Sports can be played locally with several players on one console, or online against people all over the world. The latter requires paid access to Nintendo Switch Online.

Wii Sports, the motion game for the Wii console released in 2006, sold more than 80 million units worldwide to date, according to the company.

Nintendo Switch Sports has similar potential, with Nintendo reporting around 103 million units of the Switch sold in its three versions since 2017.

Nintendo has also announced other new releases, additions, and updates for the Switch, including Mario Strikers Battle League, a soccer game featuring Mario and his friends.

The characters can be extensively configured and have a lot of fancy special skills – tornado on the pitch or racing turtle shells included. The eight-player game with online mode and club league will be released on June 10.

Meanwhile, 48 new tracks for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will be available for download, including reworked racetracks from previous editions of the game. Gamers will be able to purchase the Booster Course Pass for $24.99, which will be released on March 28.

Also coming to the Switch is Kirby and the Forgotten Land. The colorful platform game features new Kirby abilities, attacks, crafting and absurdly fantastic visuals, and will be available March 25.

And for some out-of-this-world news, five years after its launch on PC, Xbox and PlayStation, No Man's Sky is now coming to the Switch. The space game with its countless procedurally generated star and planet worlds will be released this summer.

Even more new releases include Xenoblade Chronicles 3 in September, Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes at the end of June, and a reboot of Advance Wars – for which Parts 1 and 2 will drop as a collection on April 8.
