Houston, Texas - The attorney for NFL quarterback Deshaun Watson confirmed on Wednesday that the FBI has recently looked into the allegations against his client.

The legal troubles following Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson (25) are getting more serious by the day, especially since the FBI has gotten involved. The agency reached out to at least one person involved in his case.

Tony Buzbee, the attorney representing 22 women who have filed lawsuits accusing Watson of sexual misconduct, confirmed this to the Associated Press on Wednesday.

He explained that the FBI "reached out to me, and I responded."

Watson’s lead attorney, Rusty Hardin, got wind of Buzbee’s disclosure and held his own press conference confirming that the Feds also made contact with his client regarding the ongoing case. He claims that FBI officials reached out to Watson in April of this year, regarding extortion claims from one of the 22 women who have filed suit against him.

Watson faces criminal complaints filed with the Houston Police Department, and his civil lawsuits held in the Harris County Court System.

Christina Garza, a spokesperson for the FBI’s Houston office, said via email to the AP that she could neither confirm nor deny the existence of an investigation.
