If you failed to catch the most thrilling episode of America's Got Talent, you can catch a glimpse of the action in the video below. But it wasn't a contestant act that stole the show.

Rather, it was the judges themselves who enacted one of the craziest moments in AGT history.

The Today Show covered the prank, pulled by the normally very serious Simon Cowell, who has apparently decided to show off a different persona, at least to freak out co-judge Sofia Vergara. The results were both frightening and entertaining.

Simon concocted the plan with the help of a two-time former act, Ryan Stock and Amberlynn, who famously screwed up their comedy death-defying stunt in season 11 when Ryan got shot in the neck with a flaming arrow.

Simon pretended he was equally as surprised as the other judges at the return of the awkward daredevils. As a newer judge, Sofia's introduction to their act was an adrenaline-fueled display of blindfolded archery that looked like it could very easily go wrong.

After all, Ryan and Amberlynn's act didn't always have the best safety track record, which is why they hadn't ever won the show.

The duo then asked for two helpers on stage, selecting the visibly surprised Simon and Sofia.

Placing Simon as the target holding the balloon to be popped over his head, Ryan and Amberlynn then had Sofia traipse over to the set-up crossbow, clad in her tight glittering dress and stilettos. Clearly, she did not want to participate, begging Simon to call off the stunt once they put a blindfold on her.

After providing very specific directions that she was to fire the crossbow when told, or else risk the safety of those on the stage, she waited for the command, trembling and with the audience hushed in the wings.

Meanwhile, unbeknownst to the blindfolded Sofia, the effects team ran over and silently laid Simon on the ground, affixing an arrow to his chest and removing the real one from her crossbow. When Amberlynn yelled "Fire!" Sofia obeyed, and suddenly gasps and horrified screams rang out in the audience.

Ripping off her blindfold, Sofia saw Terry Crews and the others huddled over the collapsed Simon, with the arrow sticking straight out of his heart!

Initially in shock, something about the scene didn't sit quite right with Sofia, as her panic competed with disbelief. Terry beckoned Sofia over while calling for a medic to hear what the dying Simon had to say. As she drew nearer, the fading Simon called out, "I gotcha!"

Stumbling in her confusion, with her hands on her mouth, she began laughing as Simon got to his feet.
