According to ABC 13, David Xavier Castro was heading home from a Houston Astros game with his father and brother at around 11 PM when they encountered a man in a white sedan on Chartres Street.

After David's dad and the other driver exchanged insults for reasons that are as yet unexplained, the suspect began following the family before firing several shots at the back window of the truck.

David was struck in the head by one of the bullets. The other two in the car were not injured.

The teen was then rushed to the Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical condition. He sadly passed away on Wednesday, as his heartbroken dad shared on Facebook.

"David was one of the good guys," his dad, Paul Castro, told KHOU 11. "He was set to be a National Merit Semifinalist. He loved percussion and was planning on playing in band in college."

"He was such a gentle person... He would have added to our world and made it better. Instead, the world took him too early, in a senseless and meaningless way."

Police are still searching for the "Black male suspect" who shot David.

He is believed to have been driving a white Buick with four doors and a sunroof. Pictures of the vehicle have been published.

Authorities are asking anyone with information on the incident to contact 713-308-3600 or provide an anonymous tip to Houston Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS (8477).
