They Both Die at the End, published in 2017, is set in a world where a program known as Death-Cast calls you on the day you are going to die. After protagonists Rufus and Mateo each receive the dreaded call, the two strangers make an unexpected connection as they try to live their last day to the fullest.

The novel was a bestseller when it was released, but has received a major boost in popularity thanks to the power of BookTok, the reading community on TikTok.

They Both Die at the End's success has been a landmark achievement, as it became the first YA novel featuring LGBTQ+ Latinx characters to reach the top spot on the New York Times bestseller list.

Netflix has been a popular home for adaptations of BookTok favorites, including Heartstopper by Alice Oseman and Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo.
