Newsom eviscerates Trump in furious response to war on Iran
Sacramento, California - California Governor Gavin Newsom eviscerated President Donald Trump for launching his war on Iran in furious comments made during a press conference on Monday.
"Four service members died today, and Donald Trump spent more time talking about his ballroom than he did about the loss of those lives," Newsom said during a press conference on Monday. "Review the tape."
"He spent more time talking about the curtains in his ballroom than he did about the four service members that died because of his operation and his declaration of war without congressional consent," Newsom continued.
"He still has not articulated the vision of what the endgame is, period, full stop," he said angrily. "There's been no War Powers Act that has been exercised – I'm glad Congress is doing its job this week."
Newsom then went on to list a number of high-profile failures of the Trump administration, including skyrocketing oil and gas prices and the decision to cut food stamps and Medicaid – all while funding an expensive regime-change war.
Trump launched an all-out campaign against Iran on Saturday, slamming the country with bombs and killing Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The war, which is being fought with the assistance of Israel, has been widely condemned as a violation of international law.
The administration has also failed to offer a consistent reason for the attacks. Officials have cited attempts to denuclearize Iran as an excuse, while Trump had called for regime change. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said the US struck Iran "preemptively" after learning that Israel was set to launch an attack.
"Now we have Gulf allies that are being attacked; we have American planes that are literally being shot down by American allies," Newsom continued.
"We have to reconcile why our bombs were used or Israeli bombs were used to kill children, young girls, at a school," he said.
"And what was the imminent threat? It hasn't been described," he continued. "What was described today... was the beautiful ballroom and the curtains in the White House."
