BTS' promotion of new Samsung products is smooth like butter

Suwon-si, South Korea- Wednesday's Samsung Galaxy Event was flashy, slightly trippy, and smooth like butter. The tech company wants people to buy their new products, and has enlisted one of the biggest boy bands in the world to help them do it.

The announcements were peppered with pretty BTS faces singing and dancing, and a spacey music video where a singer touted the freedom his electronics give him.

Samsung was proud to reveal their updated product line, but the devices are still quite pricey.

Flip smartphones aren't exactly new, but the Galaxy Z Flip3 folding-screen phone and the Z Fold3 phone-tablet are revamped – of course with 5G – and are apparently water resistant. It's the new protection which might make the devices seem a little more worth their respective price tags of $999 and $1,799.

Additionally, buyers will be given a full year of Samsung Care+, an added insurance plan which includes a one-time screen replacement.

Though the deal is comforting, the fact that Samsung still feels the need to hedge its bets on the fragility of foldable devices is a bit concerning.

Both devices have the ability to be submerged in about five feet of water for up to 30 minutes, the IPX8 standard.

However, the addition of moving parts in water could limit cases' effectiveness to keep your expensive new toy safe, even if the warranty covers accidental damage.

Better, brighter buds

The company also unveiled the Galaxy Buds 2 for $149.99, which take the company's previous version to the next level.

The new drop includes both active noise cancellation and the ability to switch between Samsung devices seamlessly when a call comes in.

Also notable is the push to further meld with Google by introducing some new collaborations. Samsung will now implement One UI – Google's proprietary interface – as well as the long-anticipated launch of the Galaxy Watch4.

Though teased at the last Samsung event in June, the Watch4 is Samsung's official foray back into wearables. It is anticipated to be as easy to use with all of Samsung's products as an Apple Watch is with an iPhone.

The Watch4 could become one of the best functioning smartwatches on the market, especially given that Google also recently acquired FitBit.

Google's use of Fitbit's technology could mean that future collaboration with Samsung should ensure their products remain absolutely cutting edge.

Just like their new celebrity promos.
