A couple's misfortune shocked doctors after their sex encounter went horribly wrong.

After hearing the "cracking sound" during sex, blood flowed from the man's penis. He also found himself in extreme pain and could not urinate.

The 50-year-old went to the hospital a few hours after the incident, and showed his member to doctors.

Medical experts cited the case in the International Journal of Surgery Case Reports.

Doctors diagnosed the man's condition as "Eggplant Deformity" because the penis was not only completely purple, but also massively bent.

The type of penile fracture is a rare emergency and stems from blunt trauma during sex – like slipping out of a partner and accidentally bending it against their genitals.

The patient had to undergo immediate surgery, and cut open the penis and scrotum to get to the damaged tissue underneath.

It was found that the man's urethra was ruptured and torn, but with surgery, was repaired.

After the operation, the patient had to stay in the hospital for five days and was given a catheter, which he had to keep in for 21 days to help with urination. Doctors also tested his penis by giving him an "artificial erection."

Months after the operation, the man was examined again, and had reportedly made a full recovery.

He may stay away from eggplants for the time being.
