Pfizer CEO gives timeline for Covid-19 vaccine booster shots

New York, New York - The CEO of Pfizer recently announced that individuals vaccinated against Covid-19 will need a third booster shot within a year of their first jabs. Other experts say the claim is a business move, as there is no data yet to prove how vaccine efficacy fades over time.

"If they got their second shot eight months ago, they may need a third one," said Pfizer chairman & CEO Albert Bourla during an interview with Axios on Wednesday.

He clarified that the estimate would depend on FDA and CDC determinations on how to best protect the population. Until now there has been little indication of just how long individual vaccines protect against Covid-19.

Dr. Anthony Fauci also issued a similar statement during the event, noting that vaccines against coronaviruses don't usually offer life-long protection and do begin to fade with time.

Other experts, such as Cornell professor and virologist John Moore, offered a different perspective. "It’s not proven that we need boosters yet. Whereas it’s appropriate to plan for boosters, you’ve got to look at whether there’s a corporate agenda behind this," he told Axios.

The data necessary for the FDA to draw conclusions won't be available for at least several more months. And, as immunity doesn't fade away overnight, there is no cause for concern at the moment.
