Texas Tech Raider allegedly spews racial slur at Ole Miss player

Houston, Texas - The Texas Bowl college football showdown between the Ole Miss Rebels and the Texas Tech Raiders got heated, and Ole Miss' head coach Lane Kiffin provided some insight about a shocking altercation that allegedly took place on the field.

Following the Texas Bowl, Ole Miss Coach Lane Kiffin allegedly accused Tech's No. 11, linebacker Dimitri Moore, of spitting on and possibly using a racial slur towards Ole Miss offensive lineman Jayden Williams.

According to coach Kiffin, a Texas Tech player spat on a Rebel and may have used a racial slur during the Texas Bowl in Houston on Wednesday night.

The alleged incident occurred when a quarrel erupted in the fourth quarter following a fumble by Ole Miss wide receiver Dayton Wade, which was recovered by Texas Tech.

Pushing and shoving between players ensued shortly after, and the officials originally penalized Ole Miss wide receiver No. 11 Jordan Watkins. But Kiffin claims that Texas Tech's No. 11 should have been the one penalized instead.

Kiffin further revealed that the Raiders' No. 11, linebacker Dimitri Moore, spat on and possibly used a racial slur towards Ole Miss' No. 71, offensive lineman Jayden Williams. Both Moore and Williams are Black.

"There was a racial slur involved," Kiffin told reporters Wednesday night. "I brought our own 71 up to the officials, right or wrong, you see him crying? He's not crying, not because he got spit on, it's because something was said."

Kiffin added: "I talked to their head coach afterward. He was like, 'Crazy officiating out there.' I go, 'Yeah, that was really bad on that one that your guy spit, and our guy got the penalty.' He was like, 'Yeah, I know.'"

While coach Kiffin said that he spoke with Tech's coach McGuire, and noted he allegedly admitted he knew about Moore spitting on an Ole Miss player, McGuire later released a statement saying the complete opposite.

"We are disappointed an opposing head coach decided to insinuate serious allegations that are false and irresponsible," Coach McGuire said of Kiffin's allegations. "I have discussed these allegations with Dimitri Moore, and he disputed the two claims that were brought forth against him. I am proud of our team and our performance last night in what was a memorable win to close our season in front of a sea of Red Raiders."

Moore, the player accused of spitting on Williams during the Texas Bowl, also released a statement:

"I can’t state strongly enough that these accusations are false. It is disappointing to have my final game as a collegiate student-athlete overshadowed by the false accusations that were stated last night. Since I have arrived at Texas Tech, I have strived to represent my teammates, this coaching staff, and most importantly my family in the highest manner."

Texas Tech went on to defeat Ole Miss 42-25.
