NBA Playoffs: The Suns are on the verge of sweeping the Nuggets after a big road win in game three

Denver, Colorado – The Phoenix Suns are now one game away from moving on to the Western Conference finals after beating the Denver Nuggets in game three.

Devin Booker (24) and Chris Paul put on a show in the mile-high city, as the Suns won 116-102 over the Nuggets to take a commanding 3-0 series lead in the Western Conference semifinals. Phoenix cruised through Friday night’s matchup to now sit in a prime position to wrap up the series on Sunday night.

That’s now six straight wins for the West’s number two seed, and a three-game skid for the Nuggets, who once again didn’t seem to come close to standing up to Phoenix in what was a must-win game.

The NBA’s newest MVP, Nikola Jokic, did play very well with a triple-double scoring 32 points, 20 rebounds, and 10 assists. But all that yet again wasn’t enough, as the Suns were just too hot to handle.

Booker led Phoenix with 28 and Paul put up 27, but the most important part for the Suns was that Jokic and his team were once again overshadowed by a largely better team. The high altitude of playing in Denver meant absolutely nothing as the Suns easily overcame a 3-2 deficit at the game’s opening, to never trail again for the rest of the contest.

To add to their impressive winning streak, the Suns have now also won three straight road playoff games.

The Nuggets will need more than just the MVP to save their season

The Suns have all the momentum going into game four, but the Nuggets still have a chance to at least hold of elimination, if only for one more game. Jokic has been playing like one who’s truly worthy of the MVP award, but he just can’t do it all alone. Through the three games so far in the series, Jokic has averaged 25% of his team’s offense all on his own.

The rest of the Nuggets might have to get inspired by their big man’s recent honor to have a fighting chance to stay alive.

Game four is on Sunday night, back in Denver.
