Robbin' ravens: Costco customers tormented by feathered thieves in Alaska

Anchorage, Alaska – Ravens have been wreaking havoc on Costco shoppers in the store's parking lot, sweeping down and snatching groceries from carts and flying away. Those who have encountered the bird burglary say it's not the flock's first crime spree.

A flock of ravens has been targeting Costco customers in Anchorage, Alaska, as the shoppers walk back to their cars with bags full of groceries. The birds swoop in out of nowhere, grab what they can, and take off into the sky.

Anchorage resident and Costco shopper Matt Lewallen recounted his experience with the grocery thieves, saying they came in for their attack when his back was turned to the cart.

Just like that, and he became a victim of the infamous ravens: "I literally took 10 steps away and turned around, two ravens came down and instantly grabbed one out of the package, ripped it off and flew off with it," he told the Anchorage Daily News.

After Costco graciously refunded him for his misfortune, Lewallen shared his experience with the parking lot ravens on Facebook, where others chimed in, sharing similar stories.

The theft wasn't a one-off case

One Facebook user Kimberly Waller shared a post about an experience her parents had with the feathered thieves. She said they had just finished their grocery shopping when a bird came down and snatched a steak right out of their bag. Another commenter called them "calculated".

Lewallen felt the same way about the ravens' motives. He didn't believe that the birds were first time offenders and thought they had a fairly decent system in place, noting they seemed a bit overweight.

Despite the ongoing battle of the people versus ravens in its parking lot, Costco representatives have yet to comment on the matter.
