Jason David Frank of Power Rangers fame dies in tragic circumstances

Houston, Texas - Jason David Frank, who rose to fame as one of the original Power Rangers in the popular 90s kids show, has passed away, according to his publicist.

The terrible news broke on Sunday afternoon, when Frank's representative Justine Hunt confirmed to TMZ that the star had died at the age of just 49.

Several reports cited inside sourced who said the manner of death was suicide.

"Unfortunately, it is true," a rep told People. "Please respect the privacy of his family and friends during this horrible time as we come to terms with the loss of such a wonderful human being."

"He loved his family, friends and fans very much. He will be truly missed."

Frank played Tommy Oliver, first the Green Ranger and then later the White Ranger, for over three years in the show's original run. He reprised the character in many spin-off series, movies, and video games.

The California native was also a mixed martial arts fighter who competed in one professional bout in 2010.

His co-star Walter Jones, who played the Black Ranger on Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, reacted to the tragedy on Instagram, writing: "Can't believe it... RIP Jason David Frank. My heart is so sad to have lost another member of our special family."

Thuy Trang, who played the Yellow Ranger, died in 2001 in a car accident.
