Pyongyang, North Korea - Kim Yo-jong, the sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, insulted and threatened neighboring South Korea over the possibility of it issuing sanctions against the country.

According to the AP, South Korea’s Foreign Ministry announced on Tuesday that they were considering implementing additional sanctions on North Korea in response to the country recently launching and testing missiles in the region.

Kim Yo-jong, who also serves as vice department director of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, responded with a scathing statement released through state media on Thursday, describing the launches as an "exercise of the right to self-defense," and warned any retaliation from the South would come with consequences.

"As soon as the US talked about its 'independent sanctions' against [North Korea], South Korea parroted what the former said," Yo-jong stated. "This disgusting act shows more clearly that the South Korean group is a 'faithful dog' and stooge of the US."

Kim Yo-jong went on to describe South Korean president Yoon Suk Yeol and his administration as "idiots" that "do not know how to live in peace and comfort."

"We warn the impudent and stupid once again that the desperate sanctions and pressure of the US and its South Korean stooges against [North Korea] will add fuel to the latter’s hostility and anger," she added, "and they will serve as a noose for them."

South Korea's Ministry of Unification reportedly described Yo-jong's words as "her impure attempt to incite anti-government struggles and shake our system" in a statement, adding that it was "very deplorable for her to denounce our head of state with rough, substandard words and show no basic forms of etiquette."

The US and president Joe Biden have condemned the launches, saying they "needlessly raises tensions and risks destabilizing the security situation in the region."
