Francisca Franken, Bean's new owner, was looking for a pet and came across the furry feline with the grumpy-looking face while browsing an animal shelter's website.

She told The Dodo, "I saw her photo and fell in love the second I saw her. Well, at first I laughed because the pictures were so funny and I'd never seen a cat like this before."

Francisca immediately contacted the shelter and asked if Bean was still there. She had trouble sleeping, worrying that the cat might already be gone, but the shelter called her back the next day.

"I got a call from a friendly lady from the rescue who asked me if Bean was really the cat I wanted to apply for because, apparently, nobody had been interested in her before," she said.

Based on her appearance and somewhat grumpy facial expression, the special kitty hadn't seemed to have piqued many people's interest.

Francisca can't understand why nobody wanted Bean

Before being rescued, the feline lived as a stray, during which time she developed an eye infection and other illnesses.

"She has very stubby legs and a short tail and the flattest face I had ever seen," Francisca said. Nevertheless, seeing Bean made her cry with joy. She couldn't understand why many visitors thought the cat was "ugly."

Now, Bean is adjusting to her new home, sleeping in her owner's bed each night. She has also developed a unique obsession: olives!

"The first time she stole an olive was when I had a little late-night snack and she ran up to me and smacked the olive right out of my hand, scooped it up and ran away to eat it under the couch," Francisca said.

Bean is much happier now that she has a loving owner who indulges her new tastes.

On Instagram, Francisca regularly shares snaps and videos of her beloved pet with over 5,600 followers.
