Spotify gobbles up Heardle, the song-guessing puzzler

New York, New York - Spotify just snagged the music quiz game Heardle in a bid to get a hot helping from the Wordle-inspired gravy train.

In an official statement on Tuesday, the audio streaming platform announced that it bought Heardle to boost music discovery.

The song puzzle game was hot on the heels of the immensely popular Wordle puzzle. Oddly enough, the game met a similar fate.

Heardle started as someone's fresh new idea, and just like Wordle was scooped up by the New York Times, the song quiz app attracted Spotify's hungry gaze.

But even though the lean, green, music-streaming machine is the proud new owner of Heardle, Spotfiy said not much will change for users.

"For existing Heardle players, the look and feel of the game will stay the same, and it’ll remain free to play for everyone. And effective today, players can listen to the full song on Spotify at the end of the game," the company said.

Spotify's new move to take over Heardle could help users find new music to try on for size – one song puzzle at a time. But first, the app just needs to work out some minor growing pains.
