According to CBS17, Griffith (30) was at a Walmart on Missouri Avenue at around 9:00 PM when he bent over to pick up a pack of soda – which turned out to be a fatal mistake.

As Griffith moved, a firearm he carried in his waistband without a holster "suddenly discharged," and a bullet hit his upper right thigh.

Several witnesses said Griffith took the gun from his pants afterward and slid it to his brother across the aisle. It later came to light that he was trying to get rid of the weapon quickly since he didn't have a permit for it.

Griffith is currently in Pinellas County Jail and faces a felony charge for carrying a concealed weapon. His bond was set at $5,000.

The incident was the second time in only two months that Griffith has been charged with carrying a concealed weapon without a permit.

As the Miami Herald reported, he was spotted on March 19 using a flashlight to look into balconies and cars at an apartment complex in Pinellas County.

When officers asked him what he was doing, he told them he was looking for someone to help him "jump his vehicle." He was carrying a black Sig Sauer firearm at the time.

He tried to tell police he had a permit in Virginia, but authorities were later able to confirm that he did not.

It's not clear whether the gun in this case was the same as the one in the first. Regardless, it seems Griffith didn't learn his lesson, as he attempted to use the unsuccessful Virginia permit story yet again.
