Chaka Zulu: Ludacris' manager shot in deadly Atlanta incident

Atlanta, Georgia - Chaka Zulu, the long-time manager and friend of the rapper Ludacris, was wounded in a shooting Sunday night in downtown Atlanta that left one man dead and two injured.

The shooting occurred in the parking lot on the 2200 block of Peachtree Road in Buckhead, Atlanta Sunday around 11:35 PM local time, as per multiple news outlets.

When police arrived on the scene, they found three adult males with gunshot wounds. All three were taken to local hospitals, there one was pronounced dead. The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office later identified the man who died as 23-year-old Artez Benton.

Monday afternoon, law enforcement officers in Atlanta confirmed that Chaka Zulu was one of the men injured in the shooting.

WSBTV reporter Michael Seiden tweeted to say that Chaka Zulu was recovering from his wounds: "Former Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed just sent me the following statement on Chaka Zulu: We are fortunate to report that Chaka Zulu is in stable condition and recovering. The family thanks everyone for their well wishes and prayers, and asks for their privacy at this time."

According to the Associated Press, Atlanta Police Lt. Germain Dearlove said the shooting was the "result of a dispute in the parking lot."

Stars including Questlove and Magic Johnson reacted with shock on Twitter, sending their prayers to the producer.

Chaka Zulu and Ludacris have been working together for more than two decades. They co-founded Disturbing Tha Peace Records in 1998. Under Zulu's guidance, the hip hop veteran has released 11 records to date.
