After Hurricane Ian wreaked havoc on Florida at the end of last month, local law enforcement and rescue teams have had to respond to flooding that has stranded people and pets alike.

The DeSoto County Sheriff's Office recently recounted an extra special mission on their Facebook page of a dog "stranded on the roof of an RV."

The mobile home "was located in the River Acres community, one of many areas severely impacted by flooding," they explained

The pup had reportedly survived nine days on the roof of the mobile home without food!

He is thought to be a 3-to-4-year-old "black mouth cur and Pit bull" mix .

Using a small boat, officials were able to rescue the stranded dog by wading through the water and using a ladder to retrieve him.

"The dog was turned over to DeSoto County Animal Control where it now has access to water, food, and shelter," they said.

He appears to be healthy and gaining back the weight he lost as he recovers at the shelter.

So far, no owners have come forward to claim him – but he has definitely been given a second shot.
