OlliOlli World, which launched Wednesday, is a side-scrolling skateboarding adventure, which makes you focus on timing, rad tricks, and giggling over every last shred of skate culture the developers at Roll7 could find.

Their products aim to get you in what they call "Flow State Gaming", and OlliOlli World, the third in a series, nails that goal.

It won't take long for you to just let go and just get in the zone, as you pull off saucy tricks in the levels of Radlandia.

Yes, the whole of OlliOlli World hits you over the head with skating lingo, but it is charming. After all, you can't expect a game in which your goal is becoming the next "Skate Wizard" and getting to "Gnarvana" to take itself too seriously.

The tone the dev team sculpted also gives you a game that is a welcome change of pace from the gritty first-person shooters and violent battle royale titles that dominate the market.

Plus, if you slow down enough to take in the sights of OlliOlli World, you'll see lovingly crafted buildings and backgrounds, as well as a quirky cast, all rendered in a delightful art style.

Add in a polished soundtrack that just bubbles with good vibes and carefree tunes, and you've got yourself a gaming experience that feels like summer in your local skate spot.

A welcoming skating utopia

The world is broken into different areas and is as welcoming as it gets to new players.

The learning curve is steep, though, and the dev team went with the "easy to learn, hard to master" approach to building this skating paradise.

You can string together real skateboarding tricks, like the legendary Impossible, which YouTuber Physics Girl explained with the help of the trick's creator, Rodney Mullen.

Add enough tricks and grinds together, and combo your way to victory, or take a chill pill and just flow through each course.

Each level has challenges in a campaign mode, but you can still move on to the next level without going full completionist.

Roll7 also made what feels like the most "come as you are" game this year, and doesn't require you to pick a gender, has an LGBTQ+ couple in the first hour of playtime, and the developer's website for OlliOlli World even invites you to don a bumblebee onesie and do a kickflip or two.

It's delightful, and all too rare in most games, to go all-out with the character customization, and if you want to be a big chunky dude in a dress, do it. Want to play as a tatted-up skater chick? Also fine. Roll7 makes it so you are free to mix and match to build your dream skater.

At the end of the day, OlliOlli World is an excellent way to take a break, and is absolutely worth the $30 price tag on Steam if you are trying to get in the zone.

This game is for people looking for a chill ride that they can amp up as much as they want. There is pretty much no skill ceiling, so if getting into the zone isn't enough, you can shred the gnar and crush leaderboards with new high scores to your heart's content!
