Los Angeles, California - Martin Scorsese's upcoming film Killers of the Flower Moon, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro, won't be released in time for this coming Oscar season.

The highly-anticipated upcoming western Killers of the Flower Moon was supposed to premiere this year, but the $200-million AppleTV project has been delayed, according to multiple reports. It features Academy Award winner DiCaprio alongside Jesse Plemons.

Written by Eric Roth, the movie is an adaption from the best-selling book Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI by David Grann.

The film was originally scheduled to come out in 2023, but it was pushed up to 2022. It wrapped filming in September 2021, but post-production has still apparently not been completed.

Scorsese and his frequent editor collaborator Thelma Schoonmaker are known for their meticulously detailed editing process.

Killers of the Flower Moon is now expected to be released ahead of next award season at the Cannes Film Festival and then in theaters through Paramount - possibly not until mid-2023.

After Apple triumphed at this year's Oscars with a Best Picture win for CODA, it is hopeful for another big title to take home the coveted award.

Scorsese is one of the most respected and successful directors of all time, and this will be his sixth film with DiCaprio.

The cast also features a star-studded cast including John Lithgow, Jesse Plemons, Lily Gladsone, and Brendan Fraser – who is set to make his comeback to the screen in The Whale, debuting at the Venice Film Festival next month.

Killers of the Flower Moon tells the true story of America in the early 1920s, when numerous members of the Osage Native American tribe were murdered after large oil deposits were discovered on their land.
