There's a new mystery circulating the Swiftie world, and no, it's not about her next re-recording!

The 33-year-old singer is rumored to be the mysterious scribe behind Argylle, a spy novel written by Elly Conway that has already scored a high-profile Hollywood adaptation.

Making the story quite unusual is the fact that the $200 million Apple Original Film has already been made - four months before the book is even set to be released.

The adaptation, first confirmed in 2021, stars Henry Cavill and Dua Lipa among a star-studded supporting cast. Directed by Matthew Vaughn, Argylle features a script penned by Jason Fuchs, adapted from the upcoming novel.

But who is Elly Conway, exactly? No one really knows. No photos of the supposed author have been shared online, and her biographies have been kept quite minimal.

Going back to the Taylor Swift of it all, fans are convinced that this enigmatic author is also the Grammy winner herself, pointing to a few potential Easter eggs in the movie that appear to suggest so.

Did Taylor Swift secret write the novel Argylle by Elly Conway?

While the to-be-published novel is a spy thriller following the titular agent's quest to prevent disastrous chaos sparked by a Russian magnate, the movie adaptation actually features Conway as a supporting character herself.

Played by Bryce Dallas Howard, the film version of Conway is already a best-selling author thanks to the internationally successful series of Argylle books.

In the first big Easter egg, the supposed writer carries her Scottish Fold cat in a backpack that Swift has famously worn with her own beloved feline of the same breed inside.

Conway also has red hair in the movie, worn in a style that mimics Swift's hairstyle in All Too Well: The Short Film, in which she played a fictional version of herself who translated her heartbreak into a novel called All Too Well rather than a song.

TikTok Swifties have broken down the potential hints further, but is there any possibility that the speculation could be true?

Is Argylle by Elly Conway a real book?

Though some of the coincidences are certainly convincing, it seems that Argylle (the book) is more than likely just a marketing move to promote the flick.

Novelizations of popular films are certainly not new, nor is bringing to life fictional novels. Just last month, Marvel tapped into the trend by publishing Scott Lang's memoir featured in Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania as if it were a real book.

Still, it's worth noting that early reports of Argylle's production from outlets like Deadline did appear to confirm it was a real novel, so there certainly still may be more to this mystery.
